Joseph A. Rankin
Joseph A. Rankin, 84, of Washington, passed away Wednesday, November 14, 2018, in his home.
He was born January 30, 1934, in Eighty Four, a son of the late Roy and Ella C. Riddle Rankin.
Mr. Rankin was a 1953 graduate of Trinity High School.
He owned and operated the family farm for over 60 years. He was also employed as a herdsman at Mayview State Hospital, retiring after 25 years of service. He then worked as a truck driver for Agway in Eighty Four for 15 years.
Mr. Rankin was a member of Future Farmers of America at Trinity. He also was a member of Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in Eighty Four and for several years served as treasurer of its cemetery committee.
He particularly enjoyed showing cattle in South Park Fair for Mayview Hospital.
On September 10, 1955, he married Shirley Wonsettler, who survives. They celebrated 63 years of marriage.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are three children, Randy J. Rankin (Dawn Lynn) of Scenery Hill, Gary D. Rankin of Washington and Sheryl Anderson of Scenery Hill; four grandchildren, Bryan and Zachary Anderson and Melissa and Courtney Rankin; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, are son Barry Rankin; two sisters, Edna Johnson and Louise Walden; a brother and two sisters who died in infancy; and son-in-law Stanley Anderson.
Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday in Greenlee’s Bentleyville Funeral Home, 619 Main Street, Bentleyville, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 17, with the Rev. Dawn Sherwood officiating. Interment will follow in Pigeon Creek Cemetery, Eighty Four.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Washington County Fair Board, 2151 North Main Street, Washington, PA 15301.
