William Henry Cowden

William Henry “Bill” Cowden, 70, of Hickory, died Wednesday, November 14, 2018, in Washington Hospital.

He was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, a son of Marjorie Robertson Cowden of Eldersville and the late William K. Cowden.

A graduate of Fort Cherry High School, he was a member of Eldersville United Methodist Church.

Mr. Cowden served in the U.S. Navy from 1967 until his honorable discharge in 1971. For his service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.

Mr. Cowden worked at JessopSteel Co./Allegheny Ludlum, until his retirement in 2013.

Bill was a member of Hickory Fire Company, Lions Club and Slovan Veterans of Foreign Wars. He loved his three grandchildren and enjoyed watching “Survivor” and Western movies.

On March 2, 1974, he married Diana Marie Wilkerson, who survives.

Also surviving are a son, Kevin A. (Amber) Cowden of Steubenville, Ohio; three half brothers; two half sisters; three grandchildren, Kaleb, Laney and Logan; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Deceased are a sister, Sherry L. Karas, and a brother, Kevin Cowden.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 20, with Pastor Joel Peterson officiating. Burial will follow in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township, where military rites will be accorded by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175.
