Frank J. Imperatore Jr.
On Tuesday, October 30, 2018, Frank J. Imperatore Jr., a loving husband and father of two children, passed away at 76.
Frank was born March 8, 1942, in Canonsburg, to Frank Sr. and Helen McLane Imperatore. He was part of the last graduating class of Canonsburg High School (1959) and received his bachelor of science in education degree from Duquesne University in 1963.
Frank was a horse man. As a young man, he was an accomplished equestrian. As a 21-year-old, he appeared on ABC’s Wide World of Sports, winning the competition in style. Frank also won the Pennsylvania Big Jump. As his notoriety grew, Frank was asked to join the U.S. Equestrian Team, but unfortunately Frank was unable to compete as his horse, Grey Aero, was not physically fit to perform.
After returning from competition, Frank was a respected owner, trainer and breeder of thoroughbred race horses.
Later in life, Frank was employed by Canon-McMillan School District, where he touched the lives of countless students. He also worked at John Sisson Nissan.
Frank enjoyed attending auctions and flea markets, looking for antique toys and children’s books. He was an avid sports fan and especially loved the Pittsburgh Steelers and Penguins.
Later, he accompanied his wife to dog shows. In 2017, they, along with their dear friend, Amy Field, had one of the top 20 Miniature Pinchers in the country, Grand Champion San Spurs Just A Few Dollar’s More.
He was known for his patience, quick wit and keen sense of humor.
Frank was preceded in death by his father, Frank Sr., and his mother, Helen.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; his two children, Jared S. and Frank III (Danielle); sister and brother-in-law Vivian and William “Red” Ryan; cousin Dom “Stogie” Broglia (Shirley); nephew Deron Ryan (Maggie); niece Tiffany Ryan; great-nephews Cameron Ryan, Connor Ryan and Austin Ryan; and great-niece Kirstie Alvarado (Denzel).
