Chester Taylor

Chester “Jay” Taylor, 82, of West Alexander, died Wednesday, November 21, 2018, in his home.

He was born July 3, 1936, a son of the late Chester M. and Sara Ruth Hunkler Taylor.

Jay was a retired technician for Columbia Gas, Washington.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving as a private first class and working with first field artillery missiles. He was a member of Claysville American Legion Post 639 and a volunteer for Washington Meals on Wheels with his best friend, Darryl Shingle.

Jay was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Wheeling, W.Va.

Surviving are his wife, Kathy Elizabeth Kalin Taylor; four children, Kevin Taylor of Wheeling, Keith Taylor of West Alexander, Kim Taylor (Larry Rawlins) of West Alexander and Kristin White (Anthony) of Claysville; a sister, Mary Ann Taylor of St. Clairsville, Ohio; a brother, Timothy Taylor (Mary Paul) of Wheeling; and six grandchildren, Matthew Taylor, Jada Midget, Kylie Gray, Zachary Taylor, Ethyn Taylor and Bailey White.

He also leaves behind his grandpuppy, Milo.

Family and friends will be received from noon to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Altmeyer Funeral Home – Elm Grove Chapel, 154 Kruger Street, Wheeling. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 26, in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Wheeling, with the Rev. Msgr. Paul Hudock as celebrant. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling, with graveside military services conducted by Claysville Legion Color Guard Drill Team.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Donnell House, Concordia Hospice of Washington, 10 Leet Street, Washington, PA 15301.
