Caroline P. Ashbrook
Caroline P. Ashbrook, 89, of Claysville, died Monday, November 26, 2018, in Premier Washington Health Center, Chartiers Township.
She was born March 19, 1929, in Washington, a daughter of the late James R. and Freda Nuss Plants.
Mrs. Ashbrook was a lifelong member of Claysville United Presbyterian Church.
She was a 1947 graduate of Claysville High School. Following her education, she was a full-time wife and mother.
Mrs. Ashbrook was past worthy matron of Order of the Eastern Star Evening Star Chapter 187, Claysville, where she was a member for more than 50 years and served as secretary for 46 years. She was also an honorary member of the Grand Chapter of Delaware and Western Pennsylvania Association of Secretaries and was past mother adviser of Rainbow Girls Evening Star Assembly 145.
On September 4, 1949, in Claysville, she married Howard J. Ashbrook Jr., who died February 2, 1989.
She very much loved and was proud of her sons, granddaughters and great-grandchildren, and her companion, Holly the Collie.
Surviving are three sons, Howard J. (Marjie) Ashbrook, William M. (Mary Ann) Ashbrook and Hodge F. Ashbrook, all of Claysville; three grandchildren, Sarah (Gregory) Florian, Rachel (Brian Goodwin) Ashbrook and Rebekah (Chris) Dinsmore; four great-grandchildren; and 11 nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a son, Furman N. Ashbrook; three brothers; and a sister.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 10 to 11 a.m., the time of service, Friday, November 30, in Hummell and Jones Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington, Thomas W. Hummell, supervisor, Douglas M. Jones, director. Interment will follow in Claysville Cemetery. Eastern Star services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
