Randy W. Zirkle, 48, of West Mifflin, formerly of Daisytown and Richeyville, passed away unexpectedly due to heart complications Sunday, November 25, 2018, in his home.

He was born May 6, 1970, in Hyattsville, Md., a son of Robert F. Zirkle of Richeyville and the late Linda Gill Zirkle.

Mr. Zirkle was a 1988 graduate of Bethlehem-Center High School and received a bachelor’s degree in education from California University.

A 16-year veteran of Steel Valley School District, Randy lived to make an impact in the lives of his many students. A lover of computer-aided design and drafting, he used this system as a vessel to teach his students to think creatively about technology, architecture and life. His loving and caring spirit allowed him to accomplish that and so much more. One student referred to him as the “guidance for the underdogs,” another said he “believed in them before they knew they could believe in themselves,” and another mentioned “he literally changed my life.” Countless others thanked him for being a good teacher, who loved and cared for his students, a teacher who invested time not only in their education but in their lives, during their time at Steel Valley High School and after.

When he wasn’t teaching, he spent his days with his dog and best friend, Chance, reading, studying or listening to music.

He was a member of Free and Accepted Masons and Pennsylvania State Education Association.

Surviving, in addition to his father, are a son, Adam Zirkle of Greensburg; sister Kelly Sabatini (Larry) of Richeyville; nephew Josh Sabatini; and niece Rachel Sabatini.

Deceased, in addition to his mother, are a brother, Robert F. Zirkle, and his grandparents.

Friends will be received 2 to 7 p.m. Saturday, December 1, in Greenlee Funeral Home, 42 Bank Street, Fredericktown, PA 15333.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Randy Zirkle Scholarship Fund, Steel Valley High School, 412-847-7000 ext. 2500.
