Sofia C. Wheeler, 57, of Washington, died unexpectedly Monday, November 26, 2018, in her home, following a lengthy illness.

She was born May 3, 1961, in Washington, a daughter of the late Stephen A. Bryant Sr. and Emilia Dacua Bryant.

Mrs. Wheeler was Baptist.

She graduated from Washington High School in 1979, and then attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Mrs. Wheeler then moved to San Diego, Calif., and became a licensed practical nurse, working for many years in an obstetrics and gynecology office there.

She loved to dance and enjoyed music and watching “The Young and the Restless.” Mrs. Wheeler loved her friends and family. She enjoyed being with people and loved giving to others. Mrs. Wheeler had a big heart and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Surviving are a son, Dominique Wheeler of Georgia; a daughter, Monique Wheeler of Georgia; five brothers, Stephen A. (Gretchen) Bryant Jr. of New Jersey, Francisco (Jackie) Bryant of Washington, Carlos (Stephanie) Bryant of California, Ricardo (Sylvia) Bryant of Washington and Pamfilo (Angel) Bryant of Washington; two sisters, Estella Bryant of Seattle, Wash., and Antonina (Stephen) Hull of Washington; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Wheeler was preceded in death by two brothers, Manuel and Antonio Bryant.

Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m., the time of a memorial service Friday, November 30, in Nazareth Baptist Church, 123 North Lincoln Street, Washington, with the Rev. Eugene C. Beard Jr. officiating. Interment will be private.
