Samuel Rhodes
Samuel Rhodes, 88, of Mansfield, Ohio, formerly of Clarksville, passed away Tuesday, November 27, 2018.
He was born July 24, 1930, in Vestaburg, a son of the late Samuel T. and Linnie Godden Rhodes.
Samuel was a 1948 graduate of East Bethlehem High School and was a U.S. Army veteran, serving from 1952 to 1953. For his service he was awarded the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, National Service Defense Medal, Korean Service Medal with three bronze stars, United Nations Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge and Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation Badge.
He was employed with General Motors as a mechanical devices technician in the Mansfield Stamping Plant for over 31 years, retiring in 1992.
Mr. Rhodes was a lifelong member of East Beth Baptist Church, a member of United Automobile Workers and a life member of AMVETS Mansfield.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Surviving are three children, Joan Rhodes of Mansfield, Bethanne Morgan (Kenneth) of Clarksville and Gwenn Rose (David) of Savannah, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Mark Porter, Dana McMillan, Michael Morgan, Elijah Bleu Kiggans, Megan Morgan, Jesse Kiggans, Dana Hart and Lindsay Rose; brother John Rhodes; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are his wife, Arlene Ward Rhodes, who died January 26, 2015; daughter A. Janet Kiggans; son-in-law Bobby Kiggans; two sisters, Virginia Coffman and Anetta Fargo; and brother Jim Rhodes.
Friends will be received Monday from 3 to 7 p.m. in Greenlee’s Fredericktown Funeral Home Ltd., 42 Bank Street at Crawford Road, Fredericktown, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 4, with Pastor Sheldon Barnette officiating. Interment will follow in Buckingham Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded by Fredericktown American Legion Post 391 and U.S. Army.
