Edith Mae Smittle
Edith Mae “Edee” Smittle, 81, of North Strabane Township, died Sunday, September 30, 2018, in her home, surrounded by family.
She was born December 10, 1936, in Gilmore, a daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth Eckles Stumpf.
Prior to her retirement, she worked as a wire operator for AG Edwards and Sons brokerage firm.
On September 29, 1956, she married Donald C. Smittle, with whom she shared more than 38 years of marriage. Mr. Smittle died July 6, 1995.
She was the last of her immediate family and, in addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
She was a devoted wife and dedicated mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her family was her life.
Surviving are her sons, Donald (Cheryl) Smittle of Hickory and Timothy Smittle of North Strabane Township; her daughters, Kathi (Louis) Zambotti of Indiana and Joni (Nick) Kostiou of Marlton, N.J.; her grandchildren, Kristine (Matthew) Simon, Donald (Amber) Smittle, Anthony (Sara) Zambotti, Matthew (Amber) Smittle, Jessica Kostiou and George Kostiou; great-grandchildren Rian, Kolton, Emma, Joshua, Lucas, Attilo and Aza; a nephew, John “P-Wee” Ellis, whom she raised; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 10 to 11 a.m., the time of service, Thursday, October 4, in Sollon Funeral and Cremation Services Ltd., 30 East College Street, Canonsburg, Phillip L. Sollon, supervisor, J. David Sollon, director, 724-746-1000. Burial will follow in Oak Spring Cemetery, Chartiers Township.
