Mario Gerard Rossero
Mario Gerard “Gerry” Rossero, 79, of Mt. Pleasant Township, passed away Wednesday, October 10, 2018, in TownView Health and Rehabilitation Center, Canonsburg.
He was born March 15, 1939, a son of Mario and Anna Diyenno Rossero.
On April 8, 1967, he married Diane Johnston in Venice Presbyterian Church. They enjoyed 51 years together.
A self-taught, self-employed custom cabinetmaker, Gerry began his business, Rossero Cabinet Co., at age 19 in his family’s garage in Canonsburg, later relocating adjacent to his family’s beloved home on the hill that was originally part of the Johnston farm. Diane joined Gerry in the business as bookkeeper extraordinaire, and later additions to the family business included their children.
Gerry loved being home with his family, including frequent visits from his children and grandchildren. Gerry kept busy splitting wood at his sawmill, crafting his signature cedar chests, shooting target as a proud member of National Rifle Association, watching classic movies, being an avid Civil War buff and enjoying the country air outside on his favorite Allis-Chalmers tractor.
Diane first met Gerry while working at Mellon Bank in Canonsburg. She later realized his family were customers of her parent’s egg route. For many years, “Di” and “Flash” (Gerry was known for his signature slow pace) enjoyed their country view while sharing coffee at the kitchen table, surrounded by their favorite cats, Peanut, Lil Kong and Olive.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughter Amber “Ro” Rossero (Mel) of Cleveland, Ohio; son Mario “Rick” Rossero of Washington, D.C.; grandson Bryce Rossero-Kapala; granddaughter Brynlee Rossero; brother Lynn Rossero of Bethel Park; and sister Cheryl Mailley (Bill) of Virginia.
Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday and 3 to 4 p.m., the time of service, Saturday, October 13, in McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home, Robert K. McIlvaine, owner/supervisor, 27 Cherry Avenue, Houston, PA 15342. Interment will be private in Miller’s Run Church Cemetery.
