Richard Dellorso
Richard “Rabbits” Dellorso, 80, of Canonsburg, passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 10, 2018, in TownView Health and Rehabilitation Center, Canonsburg, with his loving family by his side.
He was born December 14, 1937, in Canonsburg, a son of the late James D. and Yolanda Delfine Dellorso.
Mr. Dellorso lived his entire life in Canonsburg, where he had been a member of St. Patrick Church. At the time of his death, he was a member of Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church in Muse for many years, where he was also an usher.
He was a 1955 graduate of Canonsburg High School. He also graduated from Waynesburg College with a degree in business administration and accounting and California University, where he was instructed in driver’s education. During summer break from college, he worked at the former Forbes Steel Corp., tended bar at the SNPJ and KSKJ lodges, both in Strabane, and ran summer programs for Canon-McMillan School District.
Rabbits served with the Pennsylvania National Guard and was employed as a teacher, wrestling and football coach with Canon-McMillan School District. He had been employed as a senior field auditor for British Petroleum and, prior to that, was with Ashland and Standard Oil Co. He had been employed for many years at The Meadows Racetrack in security then for the commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Rabbits loved spending time with his grandchildren and his 19-year-old dog, Maggie Mae.
On November 23, 1963, in Winchester, Va., he married Margaret M. “Marge” Markosky, his devoted wife who survives after 55 years of marriage.
Also left behind to cherish his memory are his beloved children, Angelo (Michele) Dellorso of Mooresville, N.C., Susan Similo of Canonsburg and Michele Dellorso of Nashville, Tenn.; a brother, Michael (Carol) Dellorso of Aliquippa; four grandchildren, Richard D. Similo III, Charles J. Similo and Alyssa and Gabrielle Dellorso; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, are his son, Richard Joseph Dellorso, who died August 12, 1989, and three brothers, James, Frank and Ferd Dellorso.
Family and friends are welcome from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services Inc., Joseph P. Salandra, LFD, Darla Tripoli, LFD, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, 724-745-8120, where departing prayers will be recited at 9:20 a.m. Monday, October 15. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. in Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, Muse, with the Rev. George DeVille as celebrant. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray.
