Marlin D. Funka

Marlin D. Funka, 89, of Waynesburg, formerly Houston, passed away Thursday, October 11, 2018.

He was born July 24, 1929, in Houston, a son of Raymond and Anna Mamrack Funka.

Mr. Funka was a 1947 graduate of Chartiers Township High School. He attended California University of Pennsylvania and Pennsylvania State University.

Marlin was employed for 38 years as a systems management engineer for IBM, retiring in 1991.

On July 3, 1950, he married Evelyn Nelo, who survives.

Also surviving are three children, Thomas Funka (Janet) of Encampment, Wyo., Susan Petery (Robert) of Waynesburg and Michael Funka (Elizabeth) of West Alexander; seven grandchildren, Dea Wilczek, Dayle Helicke, Jesse Rose Petery, Barrett Funka, Emily Petery, Claire Funka and Michael W. Funka; and a great-granddaughter, Auburn Flinchum.

Deceased is a brother, Raymond Funka.

Marlin enjoyed activities with his family and watching classic Westerns and “Wheel of Fortune.” He was a jokester and conversationalist, bringing smiles to family, friends and strangers. Whether in a log truck or airplane, he was a great co-pilot.

Following his retirement, he and Evelyn enjoyed many winters in Florida.

At the request of the deceased, there will be no visitation or service. Burial will be private. Arrangements are entrusted to McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, owner/supervisor, 27 Cherry Avenue, Houston, PA 15342.
