Ellsworth L. Hamel
Ellsworth L. Hamel, 90, of Waynesburg, died at 11:50 p.m. Sunday, October 14, 2018, in WHS-Greene, Waynesburg.
He was born Friday, December 16, 1927, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Herbert Hamel and Virginia Seibert Hamel.
He was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Mr. Hamel was a 1951 graduate of University of Pittsburgh.
He enjoyed reading, hiking and camping at many national parks. He built his own airplane and flew it after becoming a pilot in 1963. He was a life member of Experimental Aircraft Association. Mr. Hamel sang bass for several years in Coral Union at West Virginia University. He loved mowing and riding the tractor.
From 1963 until his retirement, he owned and operated Hamel Construction Co., building many custom homes throughout the area.
He is survived by his wife, Helma Endler Hamel, whom he married June 11, 1954; a daughter, Wendy Hamel of Waynesburg; two sons, Todd (Hope) Hamel of Waynesburg and Wayne (Theresa) Hamel of Hopwood; seven grandchildren, Carey, Adam, Alicia, Britta, Matti, Louis and Catie; and three great-grandchildren, Madison, Connor and Amelia.
There will be no public visitation. Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family, with the Rev. William Parker officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home Inc., Daryl L. Throckmorton, owner/director, 197 North Maiden Street, Waynesburg, PA 15370.
