Thomas F. Wright
Thomas F. Wright, 85, of Washington, died Tuesday, October 16, 2018, in his home.
He was born February 5, 1933, in Johnstown, a son of the late Harold and Margaret Stewart Wright.
Mr. Wright was a 1951 graduate of Somerset High School. He was an insurance agent with Hood Agency, before opening Wright Insurance Inc. He did not stay retired long, as he soon served as chairman of Washington County Sewage Council.
He enjoyed golfing, especially at Dogwood Hills, fishing and spending time with his friends and family.
Mr. Wright was a member of First Lutheran Church, Washington, where he served as treasurer of the church council for many years. He was also a member of Washington-Greene Blind Association and American Cancer Society. He served on McGuffey School Board and as a supervisor for Buffalo Township.
On September 2, 1962, in Bedford, he married Carolyn Burkett, who survives.
Also surviving are five children, Jeff (Kathy) Wright, Vickie (Carl) Group, Thomas (Tricia) Wright, Andrew (Carol) Wright and Teresa (Rick) Newton; 14 grandchildren, Anita and Jeffrey (Julie) Wright, Cara, Caitlyn and CR Group, Laurie (Matthew) Hughes, Phillip (Tara) Wright, Adam Wright, Sara (Kyle) Briggs, Joshua (Apphia) Newton, Abigail (Tyler) Yocca and Anna, Jesse and Josiah Newton; 10 great-grandchildren, Marie-Anneliese Wright, Regan Hughes, Alexander, Genevive and Kadin Wright, Jaiden, Daphne, Audrey and Penelope Newton and Phoebe Yocca; sister-in-law Patricia Wright; and many nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a brother, Harold Stewart Wright, and two sisters, Dorothy Gustason and Nancy Serwinski.
Friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Hummell and Jones Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 20, in First Lutheran Church, 92 West Walnut Street, Washington, PA 15301, with the Rev. Robert B. Grewe officiating. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to First Lutheran Church, at the above address, or to Washington-Greene Blind Association, 566 East Maiden Street, Washington, PA 15301.
