Marvin Frank Caldwell
Marvin Frank Caldwell, 96, of Monongahela, passed in his Lord’s hands to be with his beloved Annabelle Wednesday, October 17, 2018.
He was born July 5, 1922, in Monongahela, a son of Clyde Glenard and Ruth Ethel Herd Caldwell.
Marvin was a 1940 graduate of Monongahela High School.
He served during World War II in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a pilot in the troop carrier wing 316 and was active in the Pacific Theater.
Marvin retired from Conrail, Shire Oaks, as a locomotive engineer with 43 years of service.
He was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church in Monongahela, serving as deacon, trustee and holding other offices. At the time of his passing, he was the oldest living member of the congregation.
In the 1980s, Marvin volunteered as a paramedic for Tri-Community Ambulance in Monongahela. He was a member of Pittsburgh Civic Orchestra, where he played violin, as well as playing for the Washington City Park summer musicals. He was a member and past president of Sons of the American Revolution, George Washington Chapter, member and past president of Monongahela AARP and member of Independent Order of Odd Fellows in Monongahela.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 70 years, his older sister, Margaret Leaver, and his younger brothers, Wilbur and Elmer, all of Monongahela.
Surviving are two sons and a daughter, Ronald M. Caldwell and wife Velma of Boiling Springs, Janice C. Schroeder and husband Theodore of Bridgeville and Richard C. Caldwell of Boulder, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 11 a.m. to noon Monday, October 22, in Frye Funeral Home Inc., 427 West Main Street, Monongahela. Following the visitation Monday, family and friends will then go in procession to First Baptist Church, Monongahela, for services, with the Rev. Mark Schollaert and Pastor Kenneth Kirby co-officiating. Committal services and interment will follow in Monongahela Cemetery, with military honors accorded by Monongahela Honor Guard and Firing Squad.
