William Martin

William “Ollie” Martin, 81, of Amherst, Ohio, passed away Monday, October 22, 2018, in his home, following a full and meaningful life.

He was born January 5, 1937, in Eighty Four. Ollie made his home in Amherst for more than fifty years.

Ollie was a loving husband and dad. He was a carpenter by trade and started Martin Construction in 1976. He served as a trustee for Penton Owners Group. Ollie enjoyed restoring Penton motorcycles and, in his younger years, he raced motorcycles.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 60 years, Dorothy “Dollie” Martin; son Albert (Janet) Martin of North Ridgeville, Ohio; brother Wilbert (Frances) Martin of Elyria; and sister Alberta Perkins of Bentleyville.

He also leaves behind his “granddog,” Dexter

He was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Martin; a sister, Bernadette Bruhn; and his parents, Albert and Margaret Hartman Martin.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Avenue, Amherst, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, October 26. Burial will follow in Butternut Ridge Road Cemetery, Grafton, Ohio.

Great care was provided by his physicians, Ruben Escuro, M.D., Patrick Litam, M.D., Jay Sidlowski, D.O., and Roger Ove, M.D., of University Hospitals Seideman Cancer Center, as well as his nurses, Kathleen and Brenda, New Life Hospice and his caregivers, Ocie and Sylvia, who carried the family through a very difficult time.
