Joseph R. Butler
Joseph R. “Dick” Butler, 89, of Washington, passed away Saturday, October 27, 2018, in Premiere Washington Health Center, Chartiers Township.
He was born July 17, 1929, in Westland, a son of Joseph and Beatrice Smith Butler.
Mr. Butler was a graduate of Hickory High School.
He worked as a sales associate for Falconi Toyota in Washington for 33 years.
Mr. Butler was a veteran, serving with the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He was a former member of Canonsburg American Legion and attended the former First Baptist Church in Westland.
Joseph enjoyed singing, playing guitar and training and racing horses at The Meadows Racetrack.
On April 15, 1953, he married Margaret Miller, who died August 15, 2015.
Surviving are a daughter, Lisa Butler of Washington; two sons, Joseph M. and Jeffrey Butler (Mary), both of Washington; a granddaughter, Monica Oakley of Canonsburg; two great-grandchildren, Quadysha and Ledaya Oakley; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a daughter, Lorna Lavaughn Butler; two sisters, Marie McClain and Lavaughn Butler; and a brother, Harold Butler.
Friends will be received from 1 to 3 p.m., the time of service, Wednesday, October 31, in McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, owner/supervisor, 27 Cherry Avenue, Houston. Private interment will be held in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township. Full military rites will be accorded by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 Honor Guard, Canonsburg.
