June Rose Hopkins

June Rose Hopkins, 91, of Charleroi, passed away Sunday, October 28, 2018, in Monongahela Valley Hospital.

She was born June 23, 1927, in Monessen, a daughter of the late George and Hattie McCallister Shrader.

June was retired from Charleroi Area School District, having worked as a teacher’s aide for 35 years. She totally enjoyed her time at school with the teachers and children, refusing to retire until 83. She touched many lives in her 35 years.

She was a 1945 graduate of Monessen High School and planned her class reunions for 50 years.

June was very active in many organizations for years and enjoyed them all thoroughly. She was a member of Charleroi Athene Club, Charleroi Charthene Club, Monessen Chapter 205 of the Order of Eastern Star, an honorary life member of Pennsylvania Congress of Parents and Teachers (PTA), International Order of the Rainbow Girls, Fifth Degree Member of the Order of Patrons of Husbandry, Morning Star Grange No. 1271 and Charleroi Recreation Board. She was also a member of Monongahela Valley Hospital Auxiliary, having worked there as a volunteer for over 20 years. June was also a member of John K. Tener Library, working as a volunteer as well as the football concession stand for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter W. Hopkins and her son, William “Bill” Hopkins; brothers Cliff, Claude, George “Hoss,” Don and Dwayne Shrader; and sisters Eleanor Oliver and Betty Vlanich.

June is survived by sons, Walter (Adele) Hopkins and Larry (Patty) Hopkins; daughter Nancy (Sheldon) Shultz; daughter-in-law, Andrea Hopkins; seven grandchildren, William (Karen) Shultz, Tricia (Charles) Humphreys, Kristin Calcek, Shelia (Joe) Panigall, Leanna (Derek) Spada, Ryan (Elaine) Hopkins and Erin (Chris) Scanlon; and 16 great-grandchildren, Sam, Alex, Sydney and Mackenzie Humphreys, Ross and Raegan Calcek, Nate Shultz, Gianna and Landon Panigall, Jack, Will and Ellie Scanlon, Gino and Vito Spada, Eliot and Liora Hopkins.

Also left to cherish her memory is her Chihuahua, Lily.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Schrock-Hogan Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 226 Fallowfield Avenue, Charleroi. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, November 1, in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.schrock-hogan.com.
