Erma A. Grego passed away Tuesday, October 30, 2018.

She was born February 8, 1922, in Donora, a daughter of Stephano and Jennie Menichi, and had been a lifetime resident of Peters Township.

After graduating from Peters Township High School in 1940, she attended Duff’s Secretarial School. She was then employed at Bell Telephone Co. and RCA in their accounting departments.

On May 25, 1949, she married her husband, Chester Grego, where they took over the family farm, selling fresh produce and eggs to local restaurants and township residents. She worked for Murphy’s Mart until its closing. Her talents took her to Keystone Rehabilitation Center in McMurray, where she worked for many years, until she retired at 93.

Surviving are her two children, Tony (Barbara) Grego and Irene (David) Keirsbilck; grandchildren George (Karen) Olinger, Eric Grego, Jennifer Olinger, Jason (Angie) Cook and Debbie (Michael) Lutz; sister Anna Marie Corrado (the late Ronald); brother-in-law and sister-in-law Wallace and Joan Grego; and many beloved great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Deceased are her parents, Stephano and Jennie Menichi; brothers Louis (Elizabeth) Menichi and Ernest (Dottie) Menichi; granddaughter Anna Kaminsini; father and mother-in-law Frank Grego and Catherine (Robert) Johnson; and Carmella Grego, who died as a young child.

Erma’s love for her family was only equaled by her love for her community. Her active involvement at St. Benedict the Abbot Church as a Confraternity of Christian Doctrine teacher for 30 years, a Eucharistic minister and wedding coordinator, she also served as a member of the bereavement committee for the Women of St. Benedicts. She was a Girl Scout leader for 35 years and volunteered for hospice. She served over 50 years in elective service as a Democratic committee woman. Her most recent passion was being instrumental in the founding and operating of Venetia Heritage Society as a senior board member and fundraiser. She also was a co-coordinator for Venetia Senior Center, providing meals and socialization for seniors twice a month. If there was a talent or a speaker, she would find them to provide entertainment to the local senior residents. Her love of the township’s history and services were shared through hosting shows on “Senior Perspective,” the township’s local cable station.

Neighbors will fondly remember her in the early hours picking berries in her berry patch, and the smiles she would bring at Christmas delivering her “Elf Packages of homemade goodies.”

Her love of family, home and community will live on through the many lives she has touched over the years.

Friends and family are welcome from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Beinhauer Funeral Home, 2828 Washington Road, McMurray, 724-941-3211. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, November 1, in St. Benedict the Abbott Church. Interment to follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Venetia Heritage Society, P.O. Box 29 , Venetia, PA 15367. Add or view tributes at www.beinhauer.com.
