Alva William Dorsey Jr.
Alva William Dorsey Jr., 80, of Dry Tavern, passed away Monday, September 3, peacefully with his family by his side following a long struggle with Parkinson’s disease.
Alva was born May 10, 1938, in Vestaburg, a son of Alva William Dorsey Sr. and Martha Jane Carter Dorsey.
He was a 1956 graduate of East Bethlehem High School, served his country in Korea in the U.S. Army Military Police, and went on to earn his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from California University of Pennsylvania.
Alva is survived by his wife of 56 years and the love of his life, Kenwyn Kornick Dorsey; two beloved children, Dr. Mary Jo Dorsey of Pittsburgh and Alva William Dorsey III and wife Shara of Dry Tavern; granddaughter Samantha Dorsey and son Maxxen William; stepgrandchildren Joshua and wife Rachel, Michael, Jenna and son Ethan and Katelyn Wolfe; a brother, Thomas of Medina, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, deceased are three sisters, Lorayne Rankin (Barry), Donna Mancini (David) and Delores Devecka (Edward).
Mr. Dorsey was a beloved teacher of 30 years and girls basketball coach at Carmichaels Area School District. He was a member of PSEA, NEA and American Legion Post 400 in Carmichaels.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with memory sharing at 7 p.m., in Behm Funeral Homes Inc., 1477 Jefferson Road, Jefferson, Gregory P. Rohanna, supervisor. Brief prayers will be said at 10:45 a.m. Friday, September 7, in funeral home, followed at 12:30 p.m. by interment and military honors in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township.
