David Allen Dayton
David Allen Dayton, 62, of Wellsburg, W.Va., died Saturday, September 1, 2018, in Valley Hospice Liza’s Place Care Center South, Wheeling, W.Va.
He was born November 6, 1955, in Wheeling.
David graduated from John Marshall High School, and received a master of education degree from West Virginia University.
Mr. Dayton was an educator for 36 years, and taught music at Washington High School.
He played the trumpet and in a brass quintet, performing with Wheeling Symphony Orchestra. He also played with many celebrities who performed in the area.
Mr. Dayton loved all West Virginia University sports.
On July 11, 2001, he married Amity Whitlatch, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Brian (Ashley) Dayton of Hurricane, W.Va.; two sisters, Becky (Dale) Moore of Lexington, Ky., and Billie Jo Derrow of Virginia; a grandson, Hudson Dayton; and Amity’s parents, Norm and Jackie Whitlatch of Shadyside, Ohio.
Deceased are his parents, Bernard William Derrow and Letty Hembra Derrow, and a sister, Lois Jean Shimp.
Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, September 5, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. At the requested of the deceased, there will be no services.
