Jay D. Lloyd

Jay D. “Byrd” Lloyd, 61, of Strabane, passed away peacefully Monday, September 3, 2018, in his home after a lengthy illness.

He was born September 5, 1956, in Washington, to the late William L. Lloyd and Juanita “Jean” DeHosse Lloyd, who survives.

Mr. Lloyd was married to Tina Penely, his wife and companion of 39 years. He was Christian.

Mr. Lloyd was a coal miner for Consolidated Coal Co. for many years and then was employed at Washington Penn Plastics as a laboratory supervisor until his retirement.

Jay was an excellent baseball player. He played Little League when he was younger and then was a coach for many years. He played at Three Rivers Stadium as a shortstop for an all-star team. He loved to hunt, fish and golf. He was a talented harmonica player and played with Charlie Daniels at a local event.

In addition to his wife and mother, surviving are his brother, Robert “Bob” Lloyd (Joann) of Washington; his sister, Betty Jean Lloyd (Guy Ruff) of Beaver Falls; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and his brother, William P. Lloyd.

Friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services Inc., Joseph P. Salandra, LFD, owner/supervisor, and Darla A. Tripoli, LFD, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, where a blessing service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 7. Interment in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray, will be private.
