Sara M. Bell

Sara M. Bell, 87, of Hickory, died Wednesday, September 5, 2018, in Washington Hospital.

She was born January 4, 1931, in Washington, a daughter of the late Clarence Wells and Blanche Iams Wells.

Sara graduated from Trinity High School and worked for Bell Telephone Co. She later worked as custodian at Hickory United Presbyterian Church for 30 years.

She was a member of Lioness Club, Farm Women’s Association, Mt. Pleasant Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and 10-year Bell Telephone Club.

She loved word searches and volunteering at Hickory Apple Festival.

On May 28, 1954, she married Donald R. Bell, who died November 17, 2015.

Surviving are a son, Bryan D. (Cheryl) Bell of Hickory; two daughters, Brenda B. (Samuel) McMillan of Hickory and Janet Bell of Hickory; three grandchildren, Bryan R. (Renae) Bell, Samuel B. (Michelle) McMillan and Sean A. McMillan; a stepgranddaughter, Maria N. Dunn; three great-grandchildren, Rylan Bell, Kiersten Bell and Vincent Dunn; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Alyssa Horner and Kayla Horner; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are two brothers, John B. Iams and Ross Iams, and two sisters, Mary Swart and Ruth Mankey.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and 9 to 10 a.m., the time of service, Saturday, September 8, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, with Lay Pastor Lou Templeton officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Prospect Cemetery.
