Ona “Johnnie” Broberg passed away and entered into the living presence of her personal Lord and savior, Jesus Christ, Wednesday evening, September 5, as her son, the Rev. Stuart Broberg, prayed for her and held her hand. Her faith was strong and unwavering to the end, and she exemplifies the biblical promise that “love never ends” (I Corinthians 13:8).

She was born in Chicago, Ill., and during the Great Depression, her family moved to Pittsburgh’s North Boroughs in 1937. Upon graduation from Bellevue High School, she then attended and graduated from Bethany College, cum laude, where she met and fell in love with her husband, Harry “Bro” Broberg, who was “always there for her.” They married September 8, 1951, and were happily married for 64 years.

She exemplified her generation – hard-working, civic-minded, patriotic, wonderful wife and mother, faithful friend, good neighbor, a strong believer in Jesus Christ and always active in her church.

She was a member of Church of the Covenant, Washington. She was an ordained elder in the Presbyterian Church, serving on the session for more than 15 years, and served as chair of personnel, Worship Committee, Nominating Committee, Christian Education Committee and as chair of three search committees in her family’s home church, Peters Creek United Presbyterian Church.

She was a real estate agent with Northwood Realty, winning many awards for listing and volume leader in her company. She served as a state director of Republican Women of Pennsylvania, and was a member of Giant Oaks Garden Club. She was a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority. She served as secretary of Peters Township Recreation Board.

She traveled extensively, including an around-the-world trip in 1970. She spent most of her adult life in Peters Township, and she and her husband divided their time between Pennsylvania and their home on Hilton Head Island, S.C., which she loved.

She is survived by her son, the Rev. Dr. Stuart D. Broberg, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday and beginning at 10 a.m. Monday, September 10, in Church of the Covenant, 267 East Beau Street, Washington, where a Witness to the Resurrection service will follow at 11 a.m. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. in Brush Run Cemetery, Venetia.

The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to either Harry and Johnnie Broberg Pre-school Fund or Harry and Johnnie Broberg Endowed Scholarship Fund at Waynesburg University, in care of Church of the Covenant.

Condolences may be expressed at www.piattandbarnhillfh.com, Piatt and Barnhill Funeral Directors Inc., Charles R. Piatt, owner/supervisor, Lawrence K. Donovan, director.
