James Dudley Filbey

James Dudley Filbey, 86, known to friends as “Dud,” formerly of Buckhannon, W.Va., passed away Saturday, September 8, 2018.

He was born September 23, 1931, in Jefferson, a son of the late James O. and Gertrude Pollock Filbey.

Dud served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.

He worked most of his life as a heavy equipment mechanic in International Union of Operating Engineers Local 825.

Dud was a member of National Rifle Association and Conservative Caucus. He enjoyed hunting, land preservation, learning and supporting the Constitution.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Ladner Filbey; sister Jessie Lee Smolsky; four children, Stephen M. Filbey and wife Ellen of Alloway, N.J., Karen Nocella of Pottstown, Lisa Filbey and husband Thomas Bryant of Franklinville, N.J., and James Filbey Jr.; four grandchildren, Gregory Stephen Filbey of Philadelphia, Stephanie Jean Filbey of Morgantown, W.Va., Lauren Harrington and husband Matthew of Philadelphia and Jeffrey Nocella and wife Kelly of Philadelphia; and two great-grandchildren, Ray Richard Harrington and Lee Duvall Harrington.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Joann Mills, and his son-in-law, Richard Nocella.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 15, in Greene County Memorial Park, 1003 Jefferson Road, Waynesburg, PA 15370. Arrangements are entrusted to Behm Funeral Home, 1477 Jefferson Road, Jefferson, PA 15344, Gregory P. Rohanna, supervisor.
