Sara Yvonne Harris
Sara Yvonne “Bonnie” Harris, 90, of Washington, died Monday, September 10, 2018, in her home.
She was born October 9, 1927, in Washington, a daughter of the late Harold and LaVina Bristor.
Sara attended Trinity High School and left during World War II at age 16 to work in the Hazel Atlas No. 1 factory, while the men left to fight the war.
She worked as an auxiliary police officer during the war, evacuating the street during air raids. She also worked as personnel manager at Grants and banquet manager at George Washington Hotel.
Sara was very active in fundraising for American Cancer Society, Wounded Warrior Project and Turner Syndrome Society of the United States.
She was a member of Red Hat Society and was baptized in Broad Street Baptist Church.
In 1959, she married Norman Paul Harris, who died June 28, 2015.
Surviving are two sons, Jeffrey (Peggy) Harris of West Alexander and Patrick (Donna) Harris of Washington; a daughter, Beth Ann Suhon of Canonsburg; a stepson, Mark (Jan) Harris of Big Bear, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Christopher (Nikki) Phillips of Washington, Alexandria Moore, with whom she shared her home, Gina Suhon of Palm Bay, Fla., Maria Suhon of Canonsburg, Sgt. Scott (Shaley) Harris of Fort Hood, Texas, Gunnar Harris of Fort Collins, Colo., Sara Harris of Claysville and Tina Panarella of Erie; seven stepgrandchildren, Zeke, Shandori and Jennifer Harris of Big Bear, George (Aprile) Suhon of Coroapolis, Richard (Nicole) Suhon of Imperial, Andrew (Jen) Suhon of Washington and Christina (Shane) Fowler of Pittsburgh; four great-grandchildren, Jacob Rudy, Candille Rudy, Samuel Harris and Brooklynn Harris; an uncle, Lonnie Bristor of Washington; six nephews, Michael, Ronald, Thomas, Joseph, Edward and Bill Harris; four nieces, Cheryl Johnston, Tracy Desmond, Jody Polen and Lisa Harris; several cousins, including June Harris (Keith) McGill; a close neighbor she considered family, Vickie Logsdon; the Core family in Michigan; the extended Bristor family; and a caregiver, Suzi Doak.
Deceased, in addition to her parents and husband, are a son, John Robert Murphy; stepson Doug Harris; grandson Mikel Rudy; and son-in-law George Suhon.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 14, with John Wright officiating.
