Frances Marie Wood, 82, of Washington, died Tuesday, September 11, 2018, in Transitions HealthCare, South Strabane Township.

She was born May 16, 1936, in Washington, a daughter of the late Walter and Julia Radon Olbrish. She was raised by her sister, Josephine Hess, alongside Josephine’s sons, Robert and Frank Hess, whom Frances regarded as her brothers.

Mrs. Wood graduated from Chartiers-Houston High School and was a homemaker.

She was baptized and married in St. Hilary Church, Washington, and was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in her later years.

The joys of her life were her grandchildren, whom she helped raise. She was very close to them and loved spending time with them.

Mrs. Wood enjoyed family trips to Erie and Myrtle Beach, S.C., in her younger years.

For the past 10 years, Mrs. Wood made her home with her daughter, Sherry, her son-in-law, JR, and grandson Michael.

On February 2, 1957, she married Dale A. Wood Sr., who died December 22, 2008.

Surviving are a daughter, Sherry (JR) Sweeny of Washington; two grandchildren, Sara Ann (Derek) Zofchak and Michael Dale Sweeny; two great-grandchildren, Beau Zofchak and Cody Wood; daughter-in-law, Jane (Rich) Lucas; brother-in-law Roger (Toni) Wood; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are a son, Dale A. Wood Jr.; a grandson, Cody Dale Wood; three sisters, Josephine Hess, who raised Frances, Julia Alexy and Stella Miller; and five brothers, Frank, John and Thomas Przystup, and Joseph and Stanley Chropek.

The loving and compassionate care shown to Frances by her caregivers allowed her to remain at home as long as possible.

Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 18, in Immaculate Conception Church, Washington. Burial will follow in Mt. Prospect Cemetery, Hickory.
