Leonard S. Kinder
Leonard S. Kinder, 89, of Mohnton, passed away Saturday, September 15, 2018, in Genesis HealthCare – Mifflin Center, Shillington.
He was born September 29, 1928, in Philadelphia, a son of the late Leonard S. and Mary Emma Leich Kinder.
Mr. Kinder was a 1947 graduate of Frankford High School. He went on to receive an engineering degree and a master’s of business administration.
He was employed as an engineer for Selas Corp., heading projects dealing mainly with petrochemical processes. His work required him to travel extensively, both domestically and internationally.
Mr. Kinder was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, serving during the World War II and Korean War eras.
Leonard was an avid reader and true history buff, who especially enjoyed studying Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War. His history knowledge led him to serve as a Gettysburg Battlefield tour guide. He was also a true animal lover.
Mr. Kinder served as a board member and volunteer at Bethanna Home in Southampton.
On January 23, 1954, he married Dorothy Wagner Kinder, who survives. They celebrated 64 years of marriage together.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, is a brother, Kenneth Kinder of New Port Richie, Fla.
Services will be held graveside at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, September 22, in Beallsville Cemetery, 32 Chestnut Street, Beallsville, PA 15313, with Pastor George Lammay officiating. Military rites will be accorded by the U.S. Marine Corps and American Legion Hancock-McCune-Horne Post 705, Centerville.
