Gerald F. Nies
Dr. Gerald F. Nies, 86, known to friends as “Jerry,” passed away Thursday, September 20, 2018, in his home.
A native of Erie, Dr. Nies attended Cathedral Preparatory School, followed by University of Notre Dame and Thomas Jefferson Medical School.
He completed his medical residency at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. He and his family then moved to Washington, where he practiced medicine until his retirement.
A son of John and Anna Nies, Gerald was preceded in death by sister Rita Ann Nies, brothers John and Tom Nies and brother-in-law James Weiser.
Surviving siblings include James Nies, Joseph Nies and Mary Jeanne Weiser.
Dr. Nies is survived by his wife, Kathleen Nies; eight children, Jerry Nies (Mary Ellen), Mary Nies, Lisa Serrao (Rox), Kate Braden (Terry), Sue Zoeller (Lee), Amy Nies, Ellen Blume (Bill) and Bill Nies (Laura); and 15 grandchildren, Jane, Kathleen, Jerry III, Rocco, Dominic, Anne, Lee Jr., Andrew, Mary, Jonathan, Liam, Claire, Alessandra, Aidan and Arianna.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Warco-Falvo Funeral Home Inc., corner of Wilson and East Katherine avenues, Washington, S. Timothy Warco, supervisor/director, Susan Falvo Warco, director, S. Timothy Warco II, director, where a prayer service will be held at 9 a.m. Monday, September 24. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Washington. Interment will be private.
