Thomas Gerald Cumpston Sr., 76, of Greensboro, died Thursday, September 27, 2018, in his home.

Mr. Cumpston was born June 26, 1942, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Wilbur B. and Helen Hewitt Cumpston.

On April 8, 1963, Thomas married Virginia Yoney, who survives.

Also surviving are four children, Thomas Cumpston (Denise) of Greensboro, Douglas Cumpston (Johnna) of Carmichaels, Carolyn Sweeney of Greensboro and Mark T. Cumpston (Tami) of Fishers, Ind.; seven grandchildren, Douglas Cumpston (Jackie), Lucas Cumpston, Jacob Cumpston, Rose, Ryan and Renee Sweeney and Baya Cumpston; three great-grandchildren, Dominic, Helena and Gage Cumpston; three brothers, Robert Cumpston (Susan), William Cumpston (Carol) and Dennis Cumpston (Sherry); three sisters, Shirley Hegedis, Grace Brown (John) and Judy Sweeney; and many nieces and nephews.

Deceased is a sister, Helen Petak.

Mr. Cumpston was a retired coal miner with Duquesne Light, Warwick Mine. He was also a farmer who raised Black Angus cattle.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 1 to 2 p.m., the time of service, Monday, October 1, in Paul M. Lesako Funeral Home Inc., 204 Dowlin Avenue, Carmichaels, 724-966-5100, with Elder Scot Shay officiating. Interment will follow in Garards Fort Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Organization for Autism Research and mailed to Chris Buckley, 3304 Rainbow Run Road, Monongahela, PA 15603.
