Gloria E. Smith
Gloria E. Smith, 94, of Ashland, Ohio, formerly of Burgettstown, passed away Wednesday evening, December 18, 2019, at Lutheran Village of Ashland.
Gloria was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., February 23, 1925, a daughter of the late Frank R. and Minna Steinhoff England.
After leaving NYU, work in New York City and life in Amityville, Long Island, Gloria joined her beloved husband, Howard, in Western Pennsylvania. Together they built a home, family farm and herd of registered Angus cattle.
Gloria was a member of the Cross Creek Presbyterian Church, where she faithfully taught Sunday school, participated in many church organizations, and sang in the choir. She was also an active member of the Cattlemen’s Association, State Grange and served as a 4-H leader. She was an accomplished seamstress, avid reader, and leader in the community. While living in Ashland, Gloria attended the Trinity Lutheran Church and enjoyed attending school programs, concerts and athletic events of great-grandchildren.
On May 4, 1946, Gloria married Howard Smith, who preceded her in death December 5, 2012.
She is survived by three daughters, Kathleen Copeland of Greeneville, Tenn.; Cheryl (Richard) Stoddard of Argenta, Ill.; and Pamela (David) Potter of Ashland. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Matthew Copeland, Heather (Brian) Craven, Gavin (Kristen) Stoddard, Ian (Julia) Stoddard, Colin Stoddard, Michael Fisk and Lindsey (Scott) Frank; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, December 27, in the Lee & Martin Funeral Home, 73 Highland Avenue, Burgettstown, PA 15021. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 28, in the Cross Creek Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Laurie Hiller officiating, followed by inurnment in the Cross Creek Cemetery.
