Dorothy Jean Hartzell Briggs Harshman, 95, of Washington, died Monday, February 11, 2019, in Southminster Place of Presbyterian SeniorCare, Washington.

She was born May 29, 1923, in Washington, a daughter of the late Harley and Virginia Rockwell Hartzell.

After attending Trinity High School, she married and settled into the routines of a homemaker.

Dorothy enjoyed reading, local history, genealogy, traveling and writing, having had a few of her short stories published.

She will be fondly remembered for her keen sense of humor, inquisitive mind and her wonderfully mischievous nature.

Her first husband, Robert F. Briggs, and her second husband, James Harshman, are both deceased.

Surviving are a son, Robert (Nancy) Briggs of Avella; a sister, Janice (Tom) Gordon of Weyers Cave, Va.; grandchildren Michael (Diane) Briggs, Griff Briggs, Wesley (Jenn) Briggs, Melissa Holt, Raegan (Eddie) Henneman, Stacey Lins and Stephanie Poore; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Deceased are a son, Gary Dennis Briggs; two brothers, Harley Jack Hartzell and Robert Hartzell; and two sisters, Beverly Palarino and Marjorie DeBlasio.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. An additional visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., the time of services, Thursday, February 14, in Grove United Presbyterian Church, 125 East Main Street, West Middletown, PA 15379. Burial will follow in Mt. Prospect Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Citizens Library, 55 South College Street, Washington, PA 15301.
