James R. Rethage

James R. Rethage, 88, of Waynesburg, died at 8:45 p.m. Tuesday, February 12, 2019, in Donnell House, Washington, PA.

He was born Monday, June 16, 1930, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Frederick Rethage and Nancy Schober Rethage.

Mr. Rethage was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean War. He enjoyed gardening and raising horses. He also enjoyed martial arts and had earned his black belt. Mr. Rethage worked for J and L Steel in Pittsburgh as a laborer and was a roofer.

He is survived by his wife, Anna Walas Rethage, whom he married June 25, 1950.

Also surviving are daughter Judith Broski and husband Paul of McMechen, W.Va.; sons Jim Rethage and wife Mary of Waynesburg, and Richard Rethage and wife Carol of Fredericksburg, Va. 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Rethage was the last of his immediate family.

Deceased are two sisters and five brothers.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home, Inc. Daryl L. Throckmorton owner/director, 197 North Maiden Street, Waynesburg, PA 15370, where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 20, with Father Albin McGinnis officiating. Burial will be in Fairall Cemetery, Whiteley Township, Greene County. Graveside military rites will be accorded by the Greene County Veterans and representatives of the U.S. Army.
