Janet E. “Peg” Adams Kepka
Janet E. “Peg” Adams Kepka, 93, of Washington, and formerly of Wilkeson, Wash., passed away peacefully in her home, Wednesday, February 13, 2019.
She was born May 28, 1925, on a farm south of Independence, one of seven daughters of the late John and Mary Cunningham Adams.
Mrs. Kepka was a 1943 graduate of Avella High School and 1946 graduate of Penn Commercial College, majoring in accounting.
She was employed by several financial companies in Washington before joining a management team with Westinghouse Electric in Pittsburgh to establish a finance company, Westinghouse Credit Corporation (WCC). She worked over twenty years before retiring in 1974 from WCC.
On November 23, 1973, she married George M. Kepka, a ceramic engineer.
In 1978, they moved to Wilkeson, Wash., to care for his elderly father. Both were active in the community. Mrs. Kepka held various positions in the town government and served as mayor for the 2006-09 term, as well as president of the Wilkeson Historical Society.
Surviving Mrs. Kepka are a sister Leala Roadman of Avella, and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her husband, George M. Kepka, who died in 2009, are her parents and five sisters, Gertrude Buck, Olive Buck, Madeline Sickles, Harriett Patterson and Elaine Porter.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, February 17, in Jerome A. Stefkovich Funeral Home Inc., 18 Campbell Street, Avella, PA 15312. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, February 18, in Lower Buffalo Presbyterian Church, Independence, with her nephew, Roy Buck officiating.
