Helen Yanchak
Helen Yanchak, 91, of Canonsburg, died Sunday, February 17, 2019.
She was born June 26, 1927, in Medzany, Slovakia, a daughter of Joseph and Mary Galata Mathia.
Ms. Yanchak was a member of St. Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Church, Canonsburg. She enjoyed baking with the Lady’s Guild at the church.
On July 4, 1948, she married her husband of over 66 years, Michael Yanchak, who died June 28, 2015.
She was a dedicated homemaker, devoted wife and mother and, prior to her retirement, she worked as a secretary for Canon-McMillan School District and also at The Meadows.
Surviving are her sons, Michael D. (Melody) Yanchak of Washington and Dennis A. (Claudia) Yanchak of Georgetown, Texas; daughters Janet (Larry) Holick of Tucson, Ariz., and Carol Y. (Mark) Geissler of Powell, Ohio; sister Pauline Rozsas of Houston; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by brother Thomas Mathia and sister Anna Mathia.
Friends will be received 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Sollon Funeral and Cremation Services, Ltd., 30 East College Street, Canonsburg, Phillip L. Sollon, supervisor, J. David Sollon, director, 724-746-1000. Panachida service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
A divine liturgy will be held at 8:30 a.m. Friday, February 22, in St. Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Church, Canonsburg, with Father Joseph Raptosh officiating. Burial will follow in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township.
