Linda J. Abbott, 71, of Washington, formerly of Richeyville, passed away Monday, January 7, 2019 in UPMC-Shadyside hospital, Pittsburgh.

She was born July 24, 1947 in California, a daughter of the late Junior and Doris Furlong Shiflet.

Mrs. Abbott was a 1965 graduate of California Area High School and received an associate’s degree in early childhood development from Westmoreland Community College.

She was employed as a residential care aide with AARC in Washington for over 20 years, retiring in 2015.

Linda was a longtime member of the United Christian Church, Malden, and a member of the Centerville American Legion Post No. 705 Auxiliary.

Mrs. Abbott enjoyed shopping, crafts, reading and spending time with her family.

On November 25, 1966, she married John S. Abbott who died March 7, 2018.

Surviving are three daughters, Sherri Lacey (Raymond) of Deemston Borough, Christina Sowers (Jeremy) of Dry Tavern and Kimberly Abbott (Stephen Brezinski) of Richeyville; three grandchildren, Elizabeth and Victoria Lacey and Bodhi Sowers; one sister, Dianna Jurik of California; several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.Friday, January 11, 2019, in the John B. Greenlee Funeral Home, Ltd., 2830 Main Street, Beallsville. Family and friends are asked to gather at 11 a.m. Saturday at the United Christian Church, 499 West Malden Drive, Coal Center, PA 15423 for a funeral service with Pastor Amory Merriman officiating.
