Mildred Kemp
Mildred Marie Brown Kemp, 85, of Moon Township, formerly of Cecil, passed away on January 8, 2019, at home.
Mildred was born on November 3, 1933 in Collier Township, daughter of Robert and Mae Katherine Scott Brown. She was a member of the 1951 graduating class of McDonald High School. Mildred was a majorette and active on the yearbook staff. On June 30, 1951, she married Leonard Kemp, who preceded her in death.
Mildred retired from the Canon-McMillan School District as an administrative assistant and for 30 years worked in various capacities at elementary schools. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of McDonald where she was a deacon, church clerk, Sunday School teacher, member of the choir, and a prayer group leader. Mildred was serious about her family and deacon responsibilities. She was a great cook and enjoyed trying new recipes. She also enjoyed working with children, calligraphy and cheering for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Surviving are three daughters, Karen Thornton (Gerald) of Boca Raton, Fla., Linda Boswell of McDonald and Kelly Sturdivant of Moon; a son, L. Scott Kemp (Melba) of Ridgefield, Conn.; three grandchildren, Alexis Thornton, Ella, and Charlotte Kemp; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to her husband and parents, are three sisters and two brothers, Jane Louise and Robert, who both died young, another Jane Louise, Frank Russell, and Ella Mae.
Friends will be received 2 to 4 pm Sunday and 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, January 14 in Thomas-Little Funeral Home, 314 West Lincoln Avenue, McDonald, PA. Services will be held at 12 pm Tuesday, January 15, at First Baptist Church, McDonald. Everyone should meet at the church. Interment will be in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township.
