Schuyler Leverich Brooks

Schuyler Leverich Brooks, 89, of Upper St. Clair passed peacefully into eternity on January 14, 2019. His dedication to his family and his firm faith in God gave him strength and peace in his final days. Schuyler (Scotty) is survived by his sons, Stephen G. (Susan) and Peter S. (Beth) Brooks; daughter, Margaret E. (William) Schmitt; sister Ann Bull of Phoenix; grandchildren, Rachel, Chara, Josiah, Michael, Stephen, Joanna, Brooke, Andrew and Matthew; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife of nearly 57 years, Joan G. Brooks. Schuyler was born on March 25, 1929 in Orange, N.J., to Leverich and Augusta Brooks. He graduated from Williams College in 1950 with a degree in geology. He earned a Bronze Medal for service in the Korean War as a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers. After working several years in the western U.S. with Esso, he co-founded the oil and gas exploration company Haddad and Brooks, Inc. of Washington, PA in the late 1960’s. Schuyler was a devoted husband and family man. His family remembers “Pop” as an insightful, honest, loving, generous man with a dry sense of humor. In addition to a successful career, Schuyler endeavored to improve the lives of those around him through church work, welcoming visitors into his and Joan’s home, serving on the board of the Washington City Mission, and establishing a family foundation focused on spreading the good news of Jesus Christ. He had many diverse interests, including skiing, antique restoration, learning Spanish for mission trips to Chile, and playing the hammer dulcimer.
