Anna Phillips
Anna Phillips, 100, of Fredericktown, passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2019, in Transitions Washington.
She was born April 14, 1918, in Homer City, a daughter of the late Peter and Anna Andraska Maruska.
She was a graduate of Nemacolin High School.
Mrs. Phillips was a member of the Beth Center Senior Citizens, Vestaburg, and was a lifelong member of the St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, Brownsville.
She enjoyed reading and sewing, but most important to her was taking care of her children and extended family. She was truly a dedicated mother.
On October 24, 1939, she married George Phillips, who passed away February 11, 2007. They celebrated 67 years of marriage.
Surviving are five children, Michael Andrew Phillips of Escondido, Calif., George William Phillips (Beth McGowan) of Southampton, Mass., Mary Jane Phillips (August “Bo” Martos) of The Villages, Fla., John Richard Phillips (Cecelia Carl Phillips) of Vestaburg and David Allen Phillips of Fredericktown; six grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to her parents and husband, are a daughter, Anne Ellen Phillips, who died in 2016; grandson Robert Phillips, who died in 1996; a brother; and four sisters.
Friends will be received Friday from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Greenlee’s Fredericktown Funeral Home Ltd., 42 Bank Street at Crawford Road, Fredericktown, where a Panachida service will be held at 10:15 a.m. Saturday, January 26, followed by a Mass of Divine Liturgy at 11 a.m. in the St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, Brownsville, with the Rev. Christopher Burke as celebrant. Interment will follow in Mt. St. Macrina Cemetery, Uniontown. A Parastas Service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to American Heart Association, 444 Liberty Avenue, Suite 1300, Pittsburgh, PA 15222.
