Eric Vajentic
Eric “Giz” Vajentic, 70, of Donnellson, Iowa, passed away at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 22, 2019, in Great River Medical Center, West Burlington, Iowa.
He was born November 10, 1948, in Washington, the son of Joseph and Rose Yanik Vajentic. On August 22, 1970, he married Judith Laposta in Burgettstown. She preceded him in death November 9, 2010.
Survivors include his two children, Eric Matthew (Sharon) Vajentic of Kansas City, Mo., and Lynae (Mark) Scott of Donnellson, Iowa; four grandchildren, Dominic and Benjamin Vajentic and Reegyn and Grayson Scott; two brothers, Joe (Sue) Vajentic of Elyria, Ohio, and Tom (Cathy) Vajentic of Apalachin, N.Y.; a sister, Anna Kathryn Vajentic of Mayfield Heights, Ohio; mother-in-law Florence Laposta of Burgettstown; two brothers-in-law, Robert (Barbara) Laposta of Paris and Eugene (Diane) Laposta of Grantsville, Md.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Rose; his wife, Judith; and father-in-law Robert Laposta.
Eric graduated from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh with a bachelor’s degree. He worked at Climax Molybdenum as an accountant for 44 years.
He attended St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Montrose for many years. He was a longtime member of Green Acres Golf Course and the Montrose City Council. Eric was active in many area outdoor organizations. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, golfing, fly fishing and gardening. He was an avid fan of all Pittsburgh sports teams and loved hosting Sunday football get-togethers. Eric was a strong man overcoming many medical issues and was always very grateful to all those who assisted him. Above all, Eric enjoyed spending time with his family and grandkids (to whom he was affectionately known as “Pap Pap”) and he was well loved by his nieces and nephews. Giz was full of integrity and was well respected by all who knew him.
In accordance with his longstanding wishes, his body has been deeded to the University of Iowa Anatomy Department.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 2, in Schmitz Funeral Home in Donnellson, Iowa, with the Rev. Mark P. Spring officiating. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of service.
