Jay Martin Risser
Jay Martin Risser passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2019, in Hospice and Community Care, Mt. Joy, .
Jay was born May 3, 1928, in Rheems, to Martin E. and Fannie Garber Risser.
At the age of four, the family moved to Millport Road, Lancaster. Jay attended Temperance Home School and West Lampeter High School.
He worked for 50 years for Red Rose and Pennsylvania Dairy Herd Improvement Association, where he won many awards and was selected to the Pennsylvania Dairy Herd Improvement Association Employee’s Hall of Fame. He also served as a director for West Lampeter Community Fair.
Jay attended the First Presbyterian Church of Strasburg where he was in the first class of deacons, served as elder and taught Sunday school for more than 40 years.
His hobbies were reading, traveling and attending Penn State football games.
On March 31, 1955, he married Lois Anne Carter of Hickory.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are three children, Carol Anne, wife of Dennis Fahnestock of Landisville, J. Ronald, husband of Betti Summers Risser of Lancaster, and Maryellen, wife of Seth Cranston of Ashfield, Mass.; and four grandchildren, Andrew and David Risser and Mathew and Katelyn Fahnestock.
He was preceded in death by a sister, E. Jean Landis.
A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Strasburg, 101 South Decatur Street, Strasburg, at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 2, with the Rev. Robert K. Bronkema officiating. A visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Mt. Prospect Cemetery, Hickory.
Contributions may be made in Jay’s memory to First Presbyterian Church of Strasburg, Building Fund for the church organ.
