Charles S. Herrod
Charles S. “Charlie” Herrod, 90, of Washington, passed away peacefully in his home Monday, July 1, 2019.
He was born February 21, 1929, in Rices Landing, a son of the late Charles Sr. and Audree Baldwin Herrod.
Mr. Herrod was a graduate of Claysville High School and went on to serve in the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged with the rank of staff sergeant.
He was an insurance agent for American General Insurance, until his retirement in 1994. He was a member of Laboratory Presbyterian Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, spending time with his family and gardening. He maintained his garden well into his 80s. He also loved doting on his grandchildren.
He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 776, Washington, the Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion, Washington, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 927, Washington.
On August 1, 1958, in Cokeburg, he married Emilie Underwood, who died October 5, 2008, after 50 years of marriage.
Surviving are a son, Chuck Herrod of Washington; a daughter, Amy Jiga of Bridgeport, Ohio; and three grandchildren, Emilie Nicole, Evan and Eric Jiga.
Deceased is a sister, Charmaine Ross.
Charlie was a people person and enjoyed talking with his friends. He was ready to help out, and could be counted on without fail to be there for you. He will be forever known for his sense of humor and friendliness.
Friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Piatt and Barnhill Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 6, with Chaplain Douglas Keith officiating. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery.
