William M. Binotto, 95, of Canonsburg, passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 4, 2019, in Canonsburg Hospital, with family by his side.

Born September 20, 1923, in Lawrence, Mr. Binotto was a son of the late Giovanni and Fortunata Dalla Piazza Binotto and the youngest of 10 siblings (Mary, Leo, Zelinda, Adolph, Helen, Philip, John, Isabelle and Peter).

Mr. Binotto was a 1943 graduate of Cecil High School.

Following graduation, he joined the U.S. Army as an artillery private first class in the 448th AAAW battalion and served in five major campaigns in the European theatre during World War II, including the Battle of the Bulge.

Upon returning home from the war, he married the love of his life, Margaret Petardi, and spent his life working hard as a bricklayer and for Cooper Industries in Canonsburg.

Throughout his life, Mr. Binotto was a devoted husband, father, brother, brother-in-law, grandfather and great-grandfather. He spent his days putting family first, hunting, fishing and tending to Grandma’s roses and his garden full of his prized tomatoes and garlic, which even today is planted and flourishing.

He is survived by his three children, Linda (Stephen) Kolakowsky of Clifton, N.J., Michael (Ava) Binotto of Upper St. Clair and Paul (Julie) Binotto of Greenwood Lake, N.Y. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren, Lisa Kolakowsky Smith (Jason Smith) of Philadelphia, Dr. Stephanie Kolakowsky-Hayner (Gary Hayner) of San Jose, Calif., Laura (Eric) Leonetti of East Norriton, Stephen (Cara) Kolakowsky of Woodland Park, N.J., Velva Binotto Bowman (Timothy Bowman) of State College, Rachael Binotto of Orlando, Fla., and Mollie Binotto of Washington, D.C.; as well as 11 great-grandchildren, Gary, Alexandra, Augustus, Kathryn, Gracie, Isabella, Victoria, James, Stephen, Chiara and Adalina.

Friends are welcome from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services Inc., Joseph P. Salandra, LFD, owner/supervisor, Darla A. Tripoli, LFD, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, 724-745-8120, where departing prayers will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, June 8. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick Catholic Church, 317 West Pike Street, Canonsburg. Entombment will be at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Washington Road, McMurray. Full military rites will be accorded by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 and the U.S. Army Honor Guard.
