George J. Munk

George J. Munk, 74, of Vestaburg, died Thursday, September 26, 2019, in Mon Valley Hospital, Monongahela.

He was born July 30, 1945 in Jackson, Miss., a son of the late George J. Munk, Sr. and Margaret Yurick Munk.

George was a 1963 graduate of Beth-Center High School.

He went on to serve in the U.S. Navy from 1963 to 1966; he then served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1967 to 1970.

After George’s service in the military, he worked for the U.S. government as a federal criminal investigator in Region 3 and in the White House and Pentagon, under former President Reagan.

On April 6, 1968, he married Clarice M. Johnson, who survives.

Also surviving are two children, Nick (Heather) Munk of Vestaburg and Jessica (Kenneth) Seymour of Glen Burnie, Md.; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Valarie Nyswaner of Clarksville and Tammy Edwards of Scotts Depot, W.Va.

Deceased are a son, Christopher Monk; and a brother, Nicholas Munk.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, October 5, in the Chapel at Greene County Memorial Park, 1003 Jefferson Road, Waynesburg, PA 15370 with Pastor John Thomas officiating. Military Honors will be accorded by the United States Marine Corps and the Greene County Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to St. Jude Children’s Hospital at www.stjude.org.
