Michael Povich, Jr.
Michael Povich Jr., 97, a lifelong resident of Canonsburg, passed away September 13, 2019, at the H.J. Heinz VA Medical Center in Aspinwall.
He was born November 2, 1921 to the late Michael Povich and Helen Harjabach in Canonsburg. On August 22, 1960 he wed Linda Covey in Cumberland, Md. Michael was a lifelong member of St. John’s Russian Orthodox Church. He proudly served with the United States Marine Corp during World War II in the Pacific Theater. Michael was a proud member of Chartier’s Lodge, Free & Accepted Masons, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Coudersport, American Legion #902 in Houston, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2026, Disabled American Veterans and the Washington County Marine Corps League.
In addition to his loving wife Linda, left behind to cherish Michael’s memory are his sons, Andrew (Shane P. O’Neil) from Chicago, Ill. and Matthew (Jodie) of Canonsburg; his grandchildren, Natasha (Lyle) Kettering of North Huntingdon and Jordan (Jacqueline) of Canonsburg; his great-grandchildren, Myla and Maverick Kettering and Eli and Liam Povich. He is also survived by his sisters, Dorothy (Pete) Petronka of Washington and Martha Jennings of Phoenix, Ariz.; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, are Staff Sargeant George Povich, John Povich and Irene Sobczak.
Friends are welcome from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, September 20, in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, 724-745-8120, where a Masonic Service will be held at 7 p.m. A Parastas service will follow at 7:30 pm. Funeral Service will be held in St. John’s Russian Orthodox Church 10 a.m. Saturday. Interment will immediately follow in Oak Spring Cemetery with full military honors.
