Margaret M. “Peggy” Barton, 91, of Canonsburg, passed away peacefully at 1:15 a.m., Friday, April 17, 2020. Although in physical decline, she lived her final weeks comfortably and pleasantly under the compassionate care of the professionals at Manor Care of McMurray.

She was born May 20, 1928, in London, England, a daughter of the late Alexander and Mary Louisa Waterworth Milne. She lived her formative years influenced by the Great Depression and World War II, which gave her the steely resolve to face life’s challenges with a fearless smile, a love of all things natural (eschewing most modern conveniences) and a compassion for the underprivileged.

She studied nursing and was a midwife. In January 1953, she married Frederick A. Barton, who died March 5, 1989.

Mrs. Barton lived in the Canonsburg area since 1960 and was Catholic by faith. Peggy enjoyed a variety of intellectual pursuits, such as reading, organic gardening, Homeopathy, Anthroposophy, world and political history, and listening to talk radio.

Left behind to cherish her memory are her children, Mary (Arthur) Hutchinson of Lichfield, U.K., Christopher Barton of London, U.K., Frank Barton of Canonsburg, Frederick Barton (Holly Snow) of Hickory, Andrew (Nicole) Barton of Santa Maria California, David (Christine) Barton of Canonsburg and Penelope (David) Murphy of Phoenix, Md.; a sister, Joyce McFadden of the state of California; nineteen grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

Deceased, in addition to her husband and parents, are her two sons, John and James Barton and her brother Peter Milne.

In lieu of flowers, it is suggested to donate to the Waldorf School of Pittsburgh (waldorfpittsburgh.org), 201 South Winebiddle Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15224.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be a private family visitation, limited to 10 persons on Tuesday, April 21, 2020, in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc. Joseph P. Salandra, LFD, owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, 724-745-8120, where a Catholic blessing service will take place at 10 a.m. for friends and family through the funeral home website and Facebook. www.salandrafunerals.com.
