Malcolm Wallwork Moore
Malcolm Wallwork Moore, of McMurray, passed away Sunday, December 6, 2020, at the age of 92. He was born September 18, 1928 in Clover Township, Jefferson County to David Malcolm and Anna Wallwork Moore.
One of his favorite activities on his family’s farm was hunting. In later years, he built an authentic log cabin on the property to use as a hunting lodge, where he spent his last days with his grandsons.
Malcolm earned a BS degree in Architecture from the Pennsylvania State College in 1950. He became an architect and had several offices in McMurray. He continued working until he was in his late 80s, designing thousands of homes, additions, churches and commercial buildings in southwestern Pennsylvania.
After college, Malcolm enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard serving for two years in the North Atlantic during the Korean War. He then served 20 years in the Coast Guard Reserves in the Pittsburgh Unit, where he obtained the rank of commander, and served as the unit’s commanding officer.
He was a member of Center Presbyterian Church, the Dormont-Whitehall Lodge #684 Free & Accepted Masons, the Scottish Rite Masons, and the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution.
Malcolm is survived by his beloved wife, the former Virginia Shuntill, whom he married August 16, 1952; his children, David Moore, Sidney Moore and wife Melissa, and Carol Moore Salai and husband Michael; and his nine grandchildren, Timothy and Nicole Moore, Anthony, Samuel and Andrew Moore, Jacob, Anna, Renee and Daniel Salai.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sisters, Elizabeth Moore, A. Miriam Wackenhut; and his brother, Darius Moore.
A brief service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, December 11, in Beinhauer Funeral Home, 2828 Washington Road, McMurray, PA 15317. Burial will be at the cemetery at Center Presbyterian Church.
