Bassaraba “Tommie” Tomkinson Hogle went home to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ, Sunday, December 20, 2020.

Bassaraba was born August 20, 1925, in Florence, S.C., the fourth of six children, to Charles Day Tomkinson and Grace Prudence Weaver Tomkinson.

She graduated from Glen Allen High School in Virginia.

During World War II, she served her country as a civilian member of the United States Coast Guard, receiving an honorable discharge upon her completion of service.

On April 16, 1949, she married Laurel Chapin Hogle, with whom she celebrated 50 years of marriage one week prior to his death.

She was co-owner of Beach and Beach Insurance Company in Charleston, S.C., and worked in the insurance business both in South Carolina and Ohio.

Mrs. Hogle was known especially as a prayer warrior. She loved the Lord, and had a burden to see people assured of a home in Heaven by sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with everyone. She was a faithful member of Park Avenue Baptist Church in Washington, where she was known as “Mom Hogle” or “Grandma Hogle” to her church family. She also never left home without wearing one of her hats, and she had quite a collection!

Mrs. Hogle loved her family. She is survived by three children, Crystal (Dale Larry) Leonard of Washington, Laura Hogle of Washington and Laurel “Chip” (Jacqueline) Hogle II of Portland, Ore.; seven grandchildren, Charise (David) Webster of Washington, Daniel (Becky) Leonard of Washington, David (Adena) Leonard of Washington, Caleb (Natalie) Leonard of Lexington, Ky., April (Cody) Kishpaugh of Portland, Rachel (Daren) Cook of Portland and Jonathan Hogle of Portland; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service is being planned for 7 p.m. Wednesday, December 30, in Park Avenue Baptist Church, 3750 Park Avenue, Washington, with Pastor Larry Leonard officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Park Avenue Baptist Church Missions.

Arrangements are entrusted to the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, PA 15301.
