Bernard Dale Greely, Sr.
Bernard Dale Greely Sr., 94, of Washington, died Monday, December 30, 2019, in the home of his daughter, Karen, with family at his bedside.
He was born July 16, 1925, in Bentleyville, a son of Charles Greely and Marjorie Armbruster Greely. He grew up in Coverdale and formerly lived in Lawrence.
A veteran of World War II, Mr. Greely served in the Army (1943-46) in the European Theater, where he was a tank driver. His military awards include the American Theater Service Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Service Medal with one bronze battle star, World War II Victory Medal, and Good Conduct Medal.
For 38 years, Mr. Greely worked for Jessop Steel as an electrician. He also was self-employed with Greely Hauling for many years and was a well service driver for eight years. In addition, he served as a deputy constable for Canton Township.
Mr. Greely enjoyed gardening and word search puzzles and adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was a member of New Hope Church and American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175.
On October 26, 1946, he married Elizabeth J. Bogochenko, who died March 1, 2013.
Surviving are a son, Bernard D. Greely Jr., of Washington; a daughter, Karen (Curtis) Beton of Washington; five grandchildren, Gregory Greely, Benjamin (Randi) Greely, Jennifer Greely, Samuel (Mehana) Beton and Courtney (Brinton) Bedillion; six great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Hayden, Owen, and Miles Greely and Colt and Lane Bedillion; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a daughter-in-law, Rebekah Greely; four brothers, Robert, Arthur, Raymond Sr., and Louis Greely; two sisters, Iris Greely and Gloria Imperatore; and two nephews, James Greely and Raymond Greely Jr.
Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m., Sunday, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, January 6, with Rev. Thomas Bellhy officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded graveside by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175.
