Harold R. Johnston Jr.

Harold R. Johnston Jr., 61, of Canonsburg, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, January 4, 2020, of apparent cardiac arrest.

He was born in June 1958, in Canonsburg, a son of the late H. Robert and Catherine Lena Grego Johnston.

Harold was a graduate of Canon-McMillan High School Class of 1976, where he met his sweetheart and the love of his life, Joyce Thomas. On November 5, 1977, they were married, and she is surviving after 44 years of life together.

He was a self-employed home remodeling specialist who joined the family business right out of high school. After the passing of his father in 1990, with his siblings, they continued the rich tradition of Robert Johnston Kitchen and Bath, where he worked until the day of his passing. Harold was sincere, genuine and made a lasting impression on anyone who knew him. He had a strong sense of family tradition and very conservative values. He always took pride in the work that he did as a remodeling contractor. During winter, he counted down each week until boating season at the Yough Lake, where he and his wife enjoyed boating. His fall trips to hunt in the Allegheny National Forest were a tradition.

He leaves behind his beloved dogs, Kayno, Manny and Niko, and he will be sorely missed by his family and numerous friends.

In addition to his beloved wife, Joyce, left behind to cherish his memory are his two sons, Jared (Carrie) Johnston of Sewickley and Casey Johnston of Pittsburgh; grandsons Leo, Carlo and Landon; two sisters, Roxie (Michael) Zeman of Canonsburg and Tracy Johnston (Dennis) Caruso of Elizabeth; two brothers, Lloyd “Bob” (Barb) Johnston of Canonsburg and Dana L. (Jennifer) Johnston of Washington; his father-in-law, Anthony Thomas; sister-in-law Linda (Bernard) Graytok; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends and relatives are welcome from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services Inc., Joseph P. Salandra, LFD, owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, 724-745-8120, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 11. Interment will follow in Oak Spring Cemetery, Canonsburg.
